About Me
A few things you might like to know about me…
Originally I’m from Wales, UK, and currently, I live in Switzerland. I hold sessions in person and online and they are always in English. My "in-person" sessions take place at MotionLab, Lausanne, a state of art sport Performance Centre.
Experience
I have an undergraduate degree, a master’s degree, and a PhD in psychology. I have been curious about psychology for most of my life. I read my first psychology text at age sixteen. My best friend, Liz, gifted me the book “The Road Less Travelled” by M. Scott Peck. I still have it!
I am a Chartered member of the British Psychological Society, which means I have trained under supervision for four years following my Master’s degree so that I am equipped to deliver excellence in the field of performance psychology. I’m also a member of the European Federation of Sport Psychology.
I specialise in an approach called Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy and have trained at the world-renowned Albert Ellis Institute in New York, USA with some of the world's leading psychologists. I love this approach because it teaches us how to make an elegant shift in our thinking by examining our philosophies and changing them when they are unhelpful.
I also specialise in the management of stress, emotion and the symptoms of trauma. I work with client's to help them develop skills to manage their emotions and relationships and I can support the processing of traumatic events. I used evidence based cognitive behavioural interventions to do this.
I write and have published a handful of academic research papers and opinion papers in peer-reviewed journals. You can have a read here.I am a registered practitioner with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the UK. The HCPC is the UK regulator of my profession. My registration with this regulator assures the quality of my practice
Other things that I’m passionate about
Writing
I am currently developing my writing skills. I have always loved writing, but have found it difficult to express my thoughts clearly and without typos! I love to let my clients and anyone who is interested inside a, or at least, this psychologist’s head but I’m quite an introvert and have found a lot of joy in the process of writing. I write articles regularly and have a bigger writing project underway, the result of which will be available before the end of 2024.
Travel
I had a map of the world on my bedroom wall all the way through my childhood. I missed it so much when I moved to my grown-up house that I bought another, framed it and put it on my living room wall. I was born with a desire to travel. In my early twenties, I moved to southeast Asia and made it my home for much of that decade and the next, exploring lots of that side of the planet. These days I live in Switzerland and enjoy exploring its beauty and its neighbours. Italy is very high on my current agenda.
Adventure
I am a natural adventurer. I love exploring, hiking, trail running and ski hiking (backcountry skiing). There is something awesome about being up high in the mountains. Most weekends you will find me, my partner and our two dogs somewhere in the mountains, teenagers’ schedules permitting!
